Lopez, J.Lo Among Latino 'Influentials'

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, comedian George Lopez and -- surprise! -- Jennifer Lopez are among Time Magazine's 25 Most Influential Hispanics in the United States.

Gonzales, the country's first Hispanic attorney general, was born in San Antonio to Mexican immigrants who worked as migrant workers when he was young. He could be nominated for a position on the U.S. Supreme Court before President George W. Bush's term ends.

The magazine notes in its Aug. 22 edition that the former Texas Supreme Court justice has helped Bush "build a more muscular executive branch."

Time reports that funnyman George Lopez, whose George Lopez show has had a solid run since its debut in 2002, is one of only three Latinos who have played lead roles in hit network sitcoms starring Hispanics.

Jennifer Lopez is a no-brainer for the list, the magazine says, embodying the American dream of success through hard work and ambition.

Also among the Time Top 25 Hispanics are Cuban-Irish writer Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez, Cuban-American Senator Mel Martinez and Mexican-American filmmaker Robert Rodriguez.
